Sealing the Envelope: Air, Vapor, & Thermal Barrier Solutions for Metal Buildings

As sustainability and energy efficiency take center stage, advanced air, vapor, and thermal barrier systems have become essential for optimizing metal building performance. This session delves into the latest developments in barrier technologies and their critical role in meeting evolving energy codes and high-performance standards. Aimed at professionals who consider themselves advanced in the world of metal construction, this session will explore in-depth building science concepts, performance metrics, and compatibility considerations. Attendees will gain insight into evaluating complex building envelope conditions and specifying integrated barrier systems. A detailed case study will highlight how cutting-edge solutions have addressed challenging real-world performance and compliance issues in metal buildings.

Attendees should have moderate to advanced knowledge of/experience with: Metal Building Systems, Building Envelopes, Building Codes, and Building Design, Construction, or Project Management.

Learning Objectives:

  • Explain the role, function and importance of air, vapor, and thermal barriers in achieving energy efficiency and moisture control in metal building envelopes.
  • Identify key code requirements and testing standards related to air and vapor barriers.
  • Evaluate different barrier system types and their performance characteristics for use in metal building applications.
  • Discover how to improve the design and installation of air, vapor, and thermal control systems.
