This session offers an in-depth examination of metal roofing systems designed for high-wind applications, focusing on performance-driven design strategies and specification accuracy. Participants will explore the range of metal roof panel types and their tested performance characteristics, with an emphasis on interpreting and applying relevant test methods such as ASTM and UL standards. Attendees will learn how to integrate proper test protocols into specifications based on project-specific conditions. Critical code requirements for metal roofing and perimeter edge systems will also be addressed, offering guidance on navigating IBC and ASCE 7 provisions. Through the analysis of field performance data and real-world case studies, experienced professionals will gain actionable insights into how testing results translate to actual wind event performance—and how to implement best practices accordingly.
Attendees should have moderate to advanced knowledge of/experience with: Metal roofing, codes and/or testing, metal panel selection, and current industry standards.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify the types of metal roof panels and their performance capabilities and understand the test methods established for metal roof panels.
- Create specifications that identify the proper test methods to be included for the various roof products, styles and application.
- Recognize proper code requirements for metal roof systems and perimeter edge systems.
- Discover how actual field performance of products relates to test methods and procedures, and implement best practices.
