Utilizing MCM in Modern Design Including Fire Prevention

DESIGNATED MEETING ROOM: A304

Join ALPOLIC experts in a 4-hour workshop exploring aluminum and metal composite materials (ACM and MCM) used in modern design specifications for interior and exterior metal panels. This workshop will cover how exterior metal composite wall panels aid in code compliance and fire safety, including an overview of materials and attachment systems per the IBC.

Additionally, this session will cover metal composite material attributes including design guidelines; attachment systems; finishing options; paint and resin systems; natural metals; and anodized aluminum. They will further discuss the anodizing process, pros and cons of natural metal materials, weather testing and the importance of warranties.

Learning Objectives:

  • Comprehend the defining characteristics and properties of ACM/MCM.
  • Differentiate PE vs. FR Core and outline testing protocols for ACM/MCM wall assemblies.
  • Specify components for ACM/MCM attachment system.
  • Explore color measurement, weathering durability, and warranties in paint and coatings.
  • Distinguish between various metal composite materials such as anodized aluminum, zinc, copper, and stainless steel alloys.
  • Understand fire testing for exterior wall assemblies per IBC, focusing on NFPA 285.
  • Comprehend IBC requirements for MCM cladding.

Additionally, he is the Architectural Sales Manager for the Southwest US, where he supports the company’s sales initiatives by facilitating continuing education courses for architects and specifiers, and working with fabricators and distributors who are part of the overall sales channel. Prior to joining ALPOLIC®, Steve spent many years in various fields of Project Management including estimating, installation, field measurement, drafting/drawing and sales. He holds a BA in Business Administration from Western Washington University.
