Using Metal Roofing to Provide Climate and Budget Conscious Solutions for Existing Buildings

This session will explore the climate effects of different roofing materials using a metal roofing solution to demonstrate how different roof systems compare to each other including their different life cycle costs and demand on resources.  Additionally, the speakers will discuss added insulation, reflectivity, structural characteristics, and the superior abilities of a structural roofing system. The speakers will finish the session discussing retrofitting, including implementation and whether retrofitting over an existing sloped metal roofs or converting a flat roof to a sloped roof works based on various projects compared to all other roofing systems.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the basics of climate affects on different roofing systems.

  • Discover the capabilities of a structural roofing system.

  • Learn how and when metal retrofitting is an option for an existing roofing system.

  • The factors that go into converting a flat roof to a sloped roof.
