First, we’re once again partnering with Semper Fi & America’s Fund, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing critical resources and financial support to wounded, ill, and injured members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families. | FROM BUFFETS TO FOOD HALLS: THE HOTTEST DINING TREND IN VEGAS Las Vegas may be known today for its glittering mega-resorts, but its gaming story began humbly in the early 1900s, when Nevada’s legalization of gambling in 1931 transformed a dusty railroad stop into an entertainment capital. The 1940s and ’50s brought iconic names like the Flamingo, Sands, and Desert Inn, pairing gaming with celebrity performances. Over the decades, the Strip evolved into a playground of themed resorts and world-class attractions, drawing millions each year. The very site of the Las Vegas Convention Center — where METALCON 2025 takes place — has its own casino past. Most famously, it was once home to the Landmark Hotel & Casino, a futuristic high-rise that opened in 1969. The Landmark closed in 1990, was imploded in 1995, and its footprint is now part of the Convention Center’s West Hall expansion.
