MCA ANNUAL REPORT AND RECOGNITIONS

At their Annual Winter meeting last month in Scottsdale, Arizona, the Metal Construction Association (MCA) unveiled their 2023 Annual Report and paid tribute to two distinguished industry veterans. Amidst a backdrop of educational sessions and social events, MCA celebrated notable achievements in 2023, including the launch of a groundbreaking MCA Scholarship Program, a revamped Certified MCM System Fabricator Program, the addition of new membership categories, the creation of White Papers and Technical Bulletins, the release of a comprehensive 2023 Market Study, and the successful hosting of the 2nd Annual Metal Construction Design Awards at METALCON 2023.

Concluding the meeting on a high note, MCA bestowed its annual Larry A. Swaney Award to Tom Seitz in recognition for his extensive service to the organization, and its first-ever Lifetime Achievement Award to industry legend Dick Bus. MCA Chair Brian Partyka said, “Dick is the very embodiment of teamwork. ‘We’re partners, not competitors’ was his rallying cry. He persuaded the entire metal construction industry to work as allies and forge bonds. Working in the spirit of cooperation has allowed us all to accomplish more for ourselves, our companies, and our industry. We are all lucky to have him as a leader.”

ATLANTA 2024!

Ever wonder why no matter where you go in Atlanta, you always seem to be driving on a street with Peachtree in its name? There are more than 65 streets with the word Peachtree! According to Georgia Public Broadcasting, “While Georgia may be the Peach State, there’s more to the story than its signature fruit. All of the Atlanta-area streets called Peachtree can attribute their names to Peachtree Creek, which flows southwesterly through DeKalb and Fulton counties before joining the Chattahoochee River just south of Vinings.” Peachtree Creek not only witnessed the pivotal Battle of Peachtree Creek during the Civil War but also pays homage to Georgia’s earliest inhabitants, the Cherokee tribe. For those attending METALCON and keen on diving into Atlanta’s rich history, a visit to the Atlanta History Center in Buckhead, one of city’s oldest and historic neighborhoods, is highly recommended.
