Metal Roofing from A (Aluminum) to Z (Zinc)

DESIGNATED MEETING ROOM: S225

Often billed as “Metal Roofing 101,” this course includes technical information presented in a common-sense fashion that makes the art and science of metal roofing clear, concise and understandable. Topics include the history of metal roofing, metals and metallic coatings, metallurgy, galvanic weathering and material selection criteria. Also covered: fabrication and manufacturing techniques, various seam types and panel profiles in addition to underlayment’s, the use and misuse of sealants, seam technologies and the principles of thermal cycling and panel anchorage. A great metal introduction for beginning and experienced building professionals.

This course is an advanced building block for the metal roofing essentials covered in Part I and covers the coil coating process, paint characteristics, common and popular steep and low slope construction details, “do’s and don’ts” of installation, in addition to curved applications and wind issues. Finally, the program delves into system design, drainage principles and system selection criteria, including the principles of water-shedding and hydrostatic designs.

Learning Objectives:

  • Discover metal roofing from 960 B.C.E. to 2023.
  • Define material selection criteria for steel and low slope metal roofing
  • Recognize different fabrication and manufacturing techniques – advantages and disadvantages
  • Identify seams types and panel profiles including key differences between hydrostatic and hydrokinetic systems and use of underlayment’s and joint sealants
  • Grasp rudiments of system design including basics of flashing, sealing, panel anchorage, and thermal response

This workshop is located in meeting room #S225 and requires pre-registration, an additional fee and includes your exhibit hall pass.
