AC472 & AC478 Accreditation for the Metal Building Industry

Registered with AIA as “Metal Building Industry Setting the Bar with AC472 & AC478. This session provides architects and contractors with an overview of how the AC472 and AC478 accreditations for metal building design, fabrication and construction can be used to complement the building process. An in depth look at what is included in the accreditation process and why it is important for the safety and quality of the building. This program will outline why accreditation is important and can benefit all involved from the architect to the contractors and building inhabitants.

  • Learn about what accreditation is and what the process entails
  • Learn about the only two accreditation programs (AC472, AC478) that are helping design professionals identify qualified manufacturers and assemblers
  • Learn when to specify accredited companies that design, manufacturer and erect metal building systems
  • Learn how to identify and locate accredited contractors and manufacturers

Programs Manager, International Accreditation Service

Sandi McCracken currently manages four accreditation programs for the IAS, a subsidiary of the International Code Council and has been instrumental in the development of the most recent accreditation programs for steel construction. Shehas been directly involved with structural steel fabrication for more than 35 years predominately in Quality Assurance and Quality Control and has delivered training for a variety of agencies and associations nationwide. Sandi comes with an impressive background in fabrication and as a trained inspector, she has been responsible for the quality of fabricated members or components for projects such metal building systems,bridge and building structures such as ball parks, stadiums, rocket launcher bases and power plants, commercial and industrial projects. In addition, she has developed training programs and trained inspectors for the CWI exam and nondestructive testing methods and has been instrumental in the development of building standards for certifying entities.
